Some time in the last few years, mars was struck by an other-worldly object…..and the crater has just been found by NASA!

The crater spreads approximately 2.5 thousand km across the surface of the red planet. The unusual blue colour is the result of the impact blasting away the top layer of red dust to reveal a darker coloured rock below.

This impact site is a major reminder of how violent our solar system is and also how close our own planet comes to receiving such ‘unwelcomed’ visitors! After all, mars is in our neck-of-the-woods.
